Some friends and I attended Blues Journey at the Kennedy Center Family Theatre a couple of weeks ago. It was adapted from a children's book of the same name by Walter Dean Myers and consisted of stories and songs, earning great reviews.
We went, however, because my friend Karen's dental hygienist, Monique Paulwell, was in the performance. And, what a performance! She absolutely stole the show as Big Mama Bailey with her versions of The Thrill is Gone and Hound Dog.
So, take note -- when you see that Monique Paulwell is a cast member in local plays -- get your tickets fast.
